Today, I managed to meet up with Candice in the afternoon and she showed me a little around London on the way to the British museum and the Tate Modern. It was a great day, we managed to meet at Oxford Circus and walked our way through Carnaby Street, Old Compton Street and through Soho. Had some coffee in Sacred Cafe and then some nutella crepes from one of the stalls on the streets.
We only had half hour to go through the British museum when we arrived, so we managed to see the Eygptian Exhibition which was pretty cool. Saw some mummies and I think it was the mummy of Cleopatra. Then we were kicked out of the museum as it closed at 5:30pm.
At the Tate Modern, I'm not really sure why we were there as I couldn't appreciate most of the art on display. There was one thing that we definitely wanted to see, which was giant table and chair on display. We wondered through some very obscure art and even sick violent art pieces made from blood. We passed through an video exhibit made by Paul McCarthy, what I saw was a video of a man in a room with a mask on while he was nake with one hand tugging at his penis.... I don't know what art that is but apparently this artist addresses the taboo issues in sexuality, violence and repression. Very interesting. Finally when we found the giant table and chairs sculture, we were well pleased and wanted to stand underneath the table to have our picture taken, only to be told that we were not allowed to take any photos! I managed to sneak one in just when the minder wasn't looking.
It was an interesting day indeed. We walked a fair bit, had some tea at a pub on the River Thames and then walked over the millenium bridge towards St Paul's Cathedral to the tube station back to Notting Hill Gate station. A very productive day indeed. I'm pooped.
